I  have been forced by Homestead to drastically alter this web-site.  I have been notified that Homestead will no longer allow people to have free personal home sites that contain more than 3 pages within the web site.  As a result, I have had to cut a great deal of the content and features from these pages in an effort to conform with the demands of Homestead and still keep a degree of order within what remains.

As a result of the changes that I have had to implement to conform with the new restrictions implemented by Homestead, each page will have multiple sections.  Each section will represent a former page in the way that I had originally set up this site.  This page will include Personal Info, Summer Plans, Links, and my Guestbook.

Alright, now that I have voiced my complaints it's time to get on with the important stuff.

Personal Information

My name is Randy and my nickname is flynbfun.  I'll explain how I got that nickname a little later on.  I currently reside in Wisconsin, USA.  I am a 37 year old single white male, and yes ladies, I am looking..  My hobbies are very eclectic, including, but not limited to:

Hunting:  I do enjoy this activity, even though it is increasingly frowned upon in modern society.  I mainly hunt white tailed deer, but from time to time I do hunt other game animals as well. I enjoy hunting with archery equipment and with firearms.

Fishing: I think that the majority of the people who like to hunt also like to fish, but oddly enough, there is a large contingent of individuals that love to fish but do not hunt.  Here in this area of the U.S. the primary species of fish that are available to catch are bluegills, crappie, catfish, Small and Large Mouth Bass, Northern Pike, Muskie, Sauger, Salmon, Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Walley.  There is also a large number of other species that that inhabit the waters in this part of the country, but they are not very good to eat.

Coin Collecting: This is a new endeavor, I'm not very knowledgeable on it yet since I have only been involved in it for a few years.  A good friend of mine introduced me to this hobby back in the early 90's.  While I do enjoy it, I have not actually made a concrete decision to build a large collection.  Currently, I have most of the pennies that have been minted since 1884 to the present.  There are a few that I don't have and for a good reason.  They are very rare and very expensive.

Politics: This is something that I strongly believe everyone should be active in.  This is the greatest country that has ever existed on the face of this planet and we each need to do our duty to try and keep improving it.  I can't give you any party affiliation because I truly do not have one.  I look closely at the positions candidates take on the issues that are important to me and cast my vote for the individual that I feel will best serve my interests. In the past, I have voted for Democrats, Republicans, and on a few occasions I have voted for individuals that were affiliated with one of the less well known parties.

I am a strong advocate of term limits for all political offices.  I feel that all offices, city, county, state and federal should be limited to two 4 year terms.  I do not like career politicians.  If an individual cannot set the things in motion that he or she set out to do when they were first elected in 8 years time, do you really believe allowing them to stay in office longer will enable them to achieve those goals?  I say NO, these people need to be put on a finite timetable so they know exactly how long they have to get things accomplished.

Reading: This is a favorite pastime of mine, in fact, I typically spend more time reading a book each week than the average person does watching television.   It's not that I dislike tv, I just prefer to read.  I honestly do not know how many books I actually own,  I haven't bothered to do a physical count of them since the mid 90's.  At that time I had close to 1300 books in my private library.  Today, I would guess that I have close to or maybe just slightly over 2000 of them.

Creative Writing: I have dreamed for a long time that I could be the author of the next book to hit the # 1 spot on the New York Times Best Seller List.  I haven't suceded yet, but from time to time I do sit down and work on this idea I have for a novel.  With luck, I may finish it before I die.  I have written a few short stories in the past but I have never tried to have any of them published.  I had thought about posting one of them here, but due to the new space limitations that I need to deal with, I have decided not to. This is probably for the best since I have never bothered to obtain a copyright on any of these stories yet.

Camping: This is a fun activity that I really enjoy, but sadly I get to do so little of it anymore.  In the past, I would often go camping on the islands that are in the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers in this area.  It was always great, with the exception of the occasional boat that would go by, I would often have the entire island to myself and the friends that I happened to have with me.

Investing: I'm not going to elaborate a great deal on this either.  Suffice it to say that I have no intention of spending my "Golden Years" flipping burgers in some fast food restaurant.  To help insure that I don't, I have taken on an aggressive approach to investing in specific stocks and mutual funds.

Concerts and Music:  I have a very diverse taste in music.  I enjoy listening to everything from Big Band and Classical to Rock and Roll.  Everything except Rap that is.  I consider Rap to be low grade noise.  In the past I have seen several groups perform.  These include the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Rush, StyxREO Speedwagon, The Who, Tina Turner, The Rolling Stones, Foreigner, BTO, The Eagles, 38 Special, U2, and my all time favorite The Moody Blues.   I have seen the Moody Blues several times and never miss an opportunity to see them.  I have seen Rush 3 times, and have seen Styx twice.  All the rest that I have mentioned above I have only seen once.

Not all of the bands listed above are together and performing any longer, I have linked those that are to their respective web-sites so you can find concert info for your area if you wish.  Each of the links will open in a new window.  To return to this page, simply close the new window when you are done.

In addition to seeing these groups in concert, Yahoo sponsors a number of clubs in which members get together to share memories, post messages, photos, and chat with one another.  I am a member of one of these clubs, a club dedicated to The Moody Blues.  The members of this club meet each week for live chat sessions, usually on Sunday nights, if you would like to check it out you can do so by clicking here.

Favorite Charity: I do not support a lot of charitable organizations, but I do support some.  My favorite among the ones that I do support is the Disabled American Veterans.  This is an organization that aids our veterans who suffered disabling injuries while in service to our country.  This group assists with vocational training and helps to provide medical equipment for these people.  In my opinion, it is a very worthwhile cause.

Family and Friends:  Another thing that I enjoy doing is spending time with family members and my friends.  I don't get to do this nearly as often as I would like to.  It's actually rather sad that as we grow older, the amount of time that we have available to us to spend with the people that are the most important in our lives seems to diminish.  In my case, this is caused by travel difficulties, but I at least have found a way to somewhat over come that.  I'll go into detail on that point later.

I am the 6th of 7 children that my parents had.  Unfortunately, some of my siblings have moved away to further their careers and the distance is just great enough that you need more than a weekend for travel purposes.  My friends on the other hand have scattered to the far corners of the U.S.  East coast, West Coast, and one who now lives in Hawaii.

Aviation:  As you may have already guessed from the clouds in the background, Snoopy sitting on top of his Sopwith Camel, and that silly song at the top of this page, that I have a passion for aviation.  In fact, I can't think of anything that I would rather do than go flying.   This is what I was alluding to a bit earlier when I stated that I had found a way to travel around and visit with the rest of my family members and my friends that don't live a half a world away.   Instead of wasting precious time on the road driving, I can simply go to the local airport and rent a plane and fly.  As exciting as this may sound there are some major drawbacks to doing this.  A viation is very expensive.  The plane that I rent costs me $70 per hour to rent it.  If I decide to visit my brother that lives in northern WI., I can either spend 5 and 1/2 hours driving each way, or I can take the plane and spend 2 hours each way flying it.  If you calculate that out, to fly up for a visit will cost me at least $280 in airplane rental.  I can drive the same trip for about $55.

In additon to that, flying can create some other problems.  When you get to your destination, you must either walk, rent a car, or rely on others for ground transportation.  This can get rather annoying sometimes.

As for my flynbfun nickname, I got that from a group of individuals in a chat room that I used to frequent back when I was a student pilot.  It as a neat web site, and It's too bad that it isn't around anymore.  Anyway, one of the other members there took on the duties of chatroom monitor and gave everyone a nickname that used that site.  Flynbfun is the one that he gave to me and I have more or less adopted it and have used it ever since.
